They called it a victory 5 footsteps into their march colored banners flying proud flying high higher than the wind should allow And marching on without a pause Their own scraping steps their sole applause As treadworn boots pound the bootworn ground down Nothing but the same old paths That other fools have found Marching to the beat Of not yet written songs About battles not yet won About Fools Beneath the Sun They float on their revelry Like clouds over miles of sea but what kind of thunder clouds are those which never bring the rain They float on their revelry Like clouds over miles and miles of sea They twirl their guns like pinwheels in the wind spinning yarns as long as the day placing bets and tossing dice as they gamble everything away all beneath the shade of olive trees and marching on toward the eastern sky to find the place where the sun and heroes rise without a cause instead they seek a prize as true as a mirage to thirsty eyes that's never to be reached Marching to the beat Of not yet written songs About battles not yet won About Fools Beneath the Sun Brave man, why do you hide behind? Why do you hide? Brave man, why do you hide behind? Why do you hide? Marching to the beat Of not yet written songs About battles not yet won About Fools Beneath the Sun Brave man, why do you hide? Brave man, why do you hide? Brave man, why do you hide behind a gun?? They said that they'd set you free Free from the bonds and chains They said that they'd set you free They said that they'd set you free They said that they'd set you free They said that they's set you free Free from the bonds and chains.

Little Bird 04:39
Hey Little Bird I know you're flying free but Little Bird will you ever fly back to me Don't fly out too far over the sea Or settle down with another lonley tree I'll keep your nest as long as you are gone I'd sing alone but the clouds will hum along Sing again Miss me in your dreams I still wait As hopeless as it seems I still recall your lilting melody That morning song I heard to join the breeze I've weathered storms and seen the clouds roll past 10,000 raindrops fell where you slept last I wish you'd said goodbye my Little Bird, but the flutter of your wings was all I heard Sing again Miss me in your dreams I still wait As hopeless as it seems Hey Little Bird I know you're flying free Hey Little Bird I know you're flying free Hey Little Bird I know you're flying free but Little Bird will you ever fly back to me

Last Dance 05:05
You stole your heart away before I had the chance You stole your heart away long before this dance This catatonic romance was some kind of disease This catatonic last dance found me at my knees Shattered windows built only to be broken Shattered sweetness continuously spoken You stole your heart away before I had the chance You stole your heart away long before this dance. My trembling hands groping toward the door Your trembling lust compelling more and more My poor poor love shackles you won't bear Your poor poor love for me like acid to the air You stole your heart away before I had the chance You stole your heart away long before this dance. Maybe it's the friction between us that keeps us from sliding apart but maybe it's the fiction between us And like a stitch between silk and stone I thought you were the key to change my world But you were nothing but a girl You stole your heart away before I had the chance You stole your heart away long before this dance.

Down by, Down by the river station we'd sit Countless hours passing by like Dogwood Blossoms that the river carried to the sea Oh my love, I'd give you the sea But you don't like the sound of waves Fawning on the shore Love will choose it's course And powerless we're designed to get swept away You may say it's better to love and lose than never love at all But a heart in love has a world to lose Floating on and held in someone else's embracing arms and I know La da da da da They say all rivers run to the sea Why won't your river flow into me? They say all rivers run to the sea Why won't your river flow into me? Oh my love I'd give you my heart even if you won't give yours back to me Oh my love I'll give you my heart even though I know you won't give yours back to me.

Baobab 04:40
Barkeep beneath a baobab a garden 'twixt his eyes fed them drinks of rare rain water fed dreams of sky that barkeep beneath a baobab a river 'twixt his eyes sat and smiled, turned and tilled... his garden left behind though he never cast them out nevertheless they leave they make up a fiction feminine of anger and of fear so East of Eden and just South of Hell the barkeep he sees them go reciprocal round, tortuous bound, and cast of sins sown He's cried two rivers for your garden! He's cried two rivers for your garden! He's cried two rivers for your garden! Solitary shriveled man cries two rivers for his patrons' flight but he smiles serine in sight drawn in between those eyes knowing gardens kept and fires alight rest everyone rest everyone inside

Sierva 07:22
Gabriel Garcia Sierva Marquez pedler of love, scorner of shame he walked the streets collecting pesos for his dame calling his monkey by name Cayenato! Cayenato sat upon the dinner table but took to using silver he covered his head with a sombrero come siesta in winter he feigned a shiver Gabriel and Cayenato, the angel and the beast walking the streets, raising funding for a feast in the bosom of Black Diamond Bay in the bosom of Black Diamond Bay Gabriel Garcia Sierva Marquez, he loved his monkey more than the fame he never put the boy in danger except for running down the game (which he called the dames) Now Gabriel was born simply Garcia Marquez but the love of his life took him to changin' his name Sierva! Oh Sierva! Oh she with the miles India-Pale hair with beads round her wrist like the reigns on a mare Sierva! Oh Sierva! Gabriel Garcia Sierva Marquez took to plenty of women but none to whom he would tame he would walk in the streets with Cayenato trading Simian tricks to buy a bouquet of rose for Maria for Marie for Marcia for Marcie for the death of his lover did not love in him kill just ruin forever the questing to grant him fill from Sierva! oh she with the miles India-Pale hair with beads round her wrist like the reigns through his hair Sierva, your true love runs mad in the streets he is scowling, he is frothing at all that he meets Oh watch now, dream angel, for your lover's friend has fever of a rabid world alive with the bite of the season Cayenato! Oh Cayenato! Cayenato stood between the mastiff and his master sensing all things wrong, he prepared for the hereafter As the dog lunged, he scraped 'round, left Cayenato bleeding on the ground for the love of his master, his mother, his pere, that monkey gave his health for Gabriel's breath of air and the rabid dog slipped away to die in the sands of that street the next day Cayenato, Garcia cared for as if he were a son though business partners truly, like a gangster to his gun Cayenato went mad raving on his feet Garcia knew the time was coming fleet on its feet Oh it's death he would meet! to Cayenato he thought it would treat to the journey, to the nothing, to the everything, or the worms or the sweet place he heard his mother sing of, he remembered to Cayenato every praised word of a vision of a dream but he ended up mumbling just like in his sleep of Sierva of Sierva oh Sierva oh Sierva...

Fearless 04:07
The night was dark and the hidden moon cast no shadows for us to hide in nor shadows for us to run from But we ran. And so we dream, without a word exchanged or glance behind to what we're running from or why. Waiting for the sun to climb And pull the stubborn curtains from our eyes. This dream is ours so why do we tire ourselves running from the life that one day cathces up to us Standing at the edge of night Fearlessly we leap together And we fly...

about

Recorded in the early Summer of 2009, Sunflower is Momentary Prophets' first studio album. It means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but we think of it as a declaration, one fitting for the birth of summer, for the bursting into bloom of something long in waiting. For the super secret decoder ring to the album, listen to tracks 1-11 for the super secret instructions.

We all sang, we all played the instruments, and Mr. Sam Hurd engineered and even got his fingers sticky in production with us. We're grateful beyond words, always.
